How to Tell If Soy Milk Is Spoiled?

Before you pour your child's next glass of soy milk, make certain that the milk is still fresh.

Because soy milk is a good source of high-quality proteins, isoflavones and B vitamins, some individuals favor this milk over regular cow's milk. Soy milk is also chosen as drink by many people who are lactose intolerant. There are also others who simply elect to drink soy milk because they enjoy its taste. However, before you drink your next glass of soy milk, take time to check and make certain that you are not drinking milk that has spoiled.

Instructions

1. 

   The expiration date will be located at the top of the soy milk carton.

   Check the expiration date that is located at the top of the soy milk carton. As long as the soy milk has been refrigerated, it will stay fresh until that date occurs. When soy milk is opened, it can stay fresh (as long as it is refrigerated) for 7 to 10 days.

2. Examine the carton. If the carton appears to be swollen or punctured, then the milk may be spoiled.

3. Smell the milk. If it has an unusual smell, this odor could be an indication that the milk has spoiled. Also, if the milk's color is not the normal shade, you should consider this change an indication that the milk may be spoiled.

4. Pour the milk into a glass. If the milk pours slowly or comes out in a thick, lump-like fashion, then the milk is showing signs that it is spoiled. Do not drink the spoiled milk. Replace your milk with a new carton of soy milk.
