Instructions

    • 1

Use a medium-sized round face paint brush to create the butterfly wings. Create the top wings by making two small flower petal shapes on the child's cheek. Make the end of the petals pointy so they resemble butterfly wings. Some possible butterfly wing colors are pink, purple, green or blue.

    • 2

Make two larger flower petal shapes the same way as you did on the top wings to create the bottom butterfly wings.

    • 3

Use a liner face paint brush and a dark color that contrasts the color of the butterfly wings to outline the butterfly shape. For example, if the butterfly wings are pink, outline the butterfly with purple. The dark color will help the design stand out more.

    • 4

Use the liner brush and the same dark color to create a long narrow oval shape that extends down the center of the butterfly wings to make the butterfly body. Start in the middle where the top wings meet and paint the body so it's almost as long as the bottom wings.

    • 5

Use the liner brush and the same dark color to paint the head of the butterfly and two antennas.

    • 6

Paint dots or squiggly lines on the butterfly wings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use high quality face paints and face paint brushes that don't scratch the skin.

  • Always rinse brushes when you switch colors so you don't muddy the paint, or have a paint brush for each color.

  • Keep pre-moistened wipes handy in case you make a mistake.
