Frostex Heat Tape Installation Instructions
Frostex brand head tape/cable is a type of material that reacts to changes in temperature to produce heat. Because of this, when wrapped around an exposed pipe in a colder area of your home, the Frostex heat tape/cable will prevent the contents of the pipe from freezing. Frostex heating material is not difficult to install but it must be installed correctly to work properly. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use a pair of pliers or a pair of scissors to cut one end off the Frostex heating cable. With the end cut off, pull back on the braid protection and remove the plastic covering the end. Push the included seal onto the exposed end of cable. Slide the braiding back up to the newly placed seal. Use the included tape to tape the braid down to the base of the cable.

3
Turn over the included power unit. Slide open the back panel with your hands. Slide the exposed end of the cable into the cable guide on the inside of the power unit. This is the tiny hole just large enough for the cable to fit through between two screws. With the cable inserted, use a screwdriver to tighten the screws, which will secure the cable in place. Replace the back cover to the power unit and use the screwdriver to tighten the included screws, securing the cover into place.

4
Attach the Frostex heating cable to the pipe. Either run the cable from one end of the pipe to the other in a straight line or wrap the cable around the pipe. This depends on your preference. Once the cable is attached, use the included Frostex tape to tape the cable down to the pipe. All the cable, including the end with the protector seal on it, should be physically touching the exposed pipe.
-
5
Wrap the included insulation around the pipe. The insulation is circular with a slit down one side. Pull open the insulation and place it around the pipe. This protects the pipe and cable from light weather but does not make the cable waterproof. None of the cable that is attached to your pipe should be exposed.
-
6
Secure the power unit to the side of the pipe using the included cable ties. These should go over top of the insulation you installed in "Step 5." Plug in the power cable attached to the power unit. This plugs into a regular wall outlet. Press the "Test" button to power on the heating cable. Wait one hour before using the water that the protected pipe is connected to.
