Things You'll Need
- Electric drill
- Screwdriver
- 5/16 inch and 1/4 inch nut drivers
- Measuring tape
- Adjustable wrench
- 2 twist-on wire connectors
- Shallow pan
- Wrench
- Screw-type clamp
- Tape or pipe joint compound
Instructions
-
Install the Drain Hose
-
1
Drill a 1.5 inch hole in a cabinet wall or floor on the side of the opening closest to the sink. Check that there is an available 3-prong outlet inside the designated dishwasher space.
-
2
Attach the drain hose to the air gap with a large spring-type clamp. To reduce vibration, keep the hose away from the flood and edge of the cabinet.
-
-
3
Connect the air gap to either the waste tee or disposer inlet with a rubber hose connector with spring or screw-type clamps.
Prepare Dishwasher
-
4
Tip the dishwasher on its back, and remove the two screws attaching the access panel and lower panel to the main body. Remove the panels, and set aside.
-
5
Apply tape or a pipe joint compound to the 90-degree elbow fitting located behind the drain hose, and connect the fitting to the water inlet valve. Tighten the elbow fitting until snug and so it faces the rear.
-
6
Remove the terminal box cover from the bottom of the dishwasher body. If you are direct wiring (recommended for most electrical novices), install a clamp connector to the terminal box. If you are installing a power supply cord kit (recommended for professionals only), follow kit instructions.
-
7
Measure the height of the cabinet opening from the underside of the countertop to the floor where the dishwasher will be installed. For a cutout of 34 inches, place dishwasher wheels in position 1. For a cutout of 34 1/4 inches, place dishwasher wheels in position 2. For a cutout of 34 1/2 inches, place dishwasher wheels in position 3.
-
8
Turn both front leveler legs to the same height.
Move Dishwasher into Cabinet Opening
-
9
Stand the dishwasher up. Tilt the dishwasher backward on its wheels and move it close to the cabinet opening. Do not push on the front of the panel or console, which could dent it.
-
10
Insert a power supply cord into hole cut into cabinet. If using direct wire, check that it is on the right front side of the opening.
-
11
Check that the dishwasher water line is on the left side of the opening and the drain hose is near the center of the hole in the cabinet. All hoses may run through the same cabinet opening.
Make Electrical Connection
-
12
Plug the cord into a grounded 3-prong outlet behind the dishwasher if using a power supply cord.
-
13
If using direct wiring, pull the wire through the hole in the terminal box and connect the direct wire to the dishwasher wire using twist-on connectors. Wrap the ground wire around ground connector and tuck them under the washer.
-
14
Reinstall terminal box cover. Tuck all wires inside the terminal box without pinching or kinking any of them.
-
15
Slowly move dishwasher completely into cabinet opening. Straighten out any tubes, hoses and wires that may kink or bend during the move.
Connect to Water Supply and Drain
-
16
Route the water supply line from the dishwasher to the disposal inlet so it does not touch the dishwasher base, frame or motor.
-
17
Tighten the compression fitting nut to the elbow on the water inlet valve using a wrench.
-
18
Place a paper towel under the elbow. Turn on the water supply to check for leaks.
-
19
Place a pan under the end of the drain hose. Do not remove drain loop from the side of the dishwasher.
-
20
Place the smaller drain hose clamp on the back of the dishwasher body onto the small end of the drain hose. Push the drain hose into the connector up to the stop on the drain hose. Use pliers to open clamp and slide clamp onto the connector between stops.
Finish Installation
-
21
Secure the dishwasher to the countertop or sides of the cabinet with two 1/2-inch screws screwed through the countertop attachment or side attachment; this will keep the unit from tipping when the door is opened.
-
22
Place the lower panel behind the access panel, and place them against the dishwasher leg. Reinstall the screws through the holes in the access panel and the slots in the lower panel, doing the right side screw first.
-
23
Check that the lower panel contacts the floor, and tighten the screws.
