Step-by-Step Guide for Print Management

If you are a network administrator, and your network has a large number of devices that could be printing at the same time, you should know about Print Management. A feature of the Windows Server operating system, Print Management can easily automate the printing tasks and schedule on your network. Once set up, there is little you need to do as administrator to run the service.

      Click "Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Manage Your Server."

      Click "Add or remove a role." Click "Next" throughout until you reach the "Server Role" page of items. Select "Print Server" and click "Next" throughout the setup to complete installation.

      Click "Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Print Management."

      Right-click "Print Management > Add/Remove Servers." Click "Add Server," type a name, then click "Browse" and select your print server. Click "Add to list." Repeat until you have done this with all your printers. Click "OK." You have now set up Print Management on your network.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to customize the print manager further, click "Custom Printer Filters" in your "Print Management" application. You will see many criteria for directing print traffic.
