How do I Use Roxio to Burn a DVD?

Roxio has been a big name in CD and DVD burning, and its suite of burning programs expands and evolves constantly. The advent of cheap digital video recorders has enabled more people to create digital home movies. You can use Roxio's MyDVD component -- part of the Easy Media Creator Suite -- to turn those memories into a flashy, universally playable DVD.

Instructions

    • 1

Click Start and type "MyDVD" into the search bar, then click on "MyDVD" to open the program. Take a good look at the four panes in the program: Menu Tasks, Edit, Project View (which are arranged vertically down the left-hand side) and Preview (which takes up most of the window). Insert a blank DVD-R disc into your burner drive and close the window that pops up.

    • 2

Click "Add New Movie" in the Menu Tasks section to add a video clip to your DVD project. Search your computer to find a video clip to add. You can add files directly from your digital video recorder, as long as it is connected and turned on. Select the file to add and click "Open."

    • 3

Select "Movies" from the Project View window. This shows a list of all of the movie clips you have added to the project so far, which is one. The first video you add will be given a menu title with the same name as the file; you can click to change this name in the "Movies" pane so that your files aren't listed with their camera-assigned file names.

    • 4

Repeat Step Two until you've added all of the video files and slideshows that you want for this project. Notice the bar at the bottom of the screen, which displays how much space is remaining on the disc. Use the "Movies" pane to organize the order of the clips. You can drag clips within different hierarchies to create submenus on the DVD menu page. For example, if you have six different videos of your dog, created a main menu called "Dog" and drag the six clips underneath it. Organize the disc until you are happy with the order of the clips.

    • 5

Change the appearance of the main menu. Use the "Edit" pane to choose images or still shots from the videos to appear on the main and sub menus. You'll notice that the titles will be generic until you change them, with names like "Chap One" and "Title One." Click a title in the preview pane once to select it and a second time to edit it. You can add background sound within the "Edit" pane as well.

Click on "Preview" to see how your DVD will display on most TVs. When you are ready, click "Burn" to begin the burning process. You can choose to burn multiple copies, and Roxio MyDVD will prompt you to insert blank discs after each copy is complete.
