Most mattresses can be flipped and used on either side.

Consumers are always looking for ways to get the most out of their dollar and the products they purchase. Mattresses typically have a lifespan of 4 to 8 years depending on the model, but can be lengthened if you treat them as double sided and flip them regularly. The fact is, most mattresses are built to be used on either side or are at least capable of such use. As long as you regularly flip your mattress you may be able to double its lifespan. According to Reader's Digest, "flipping your mattress will save hundreds of dollars in the long run." Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place a box spring and a bed stand under your mattress. Sleeping on only the mattress will weaken it.

    • 2

Remove the sheets and cover. Flip the mattress over to its other side and put the sheets back on.

    • 3

Put the mattress back in place on the box spring like you normally would. Replace all of the dressing and bed decorations.

    • 4

Keep track of how often you flip the bed. Plan to flip it at least every 3 to 4 months. Flipping it at regular intervals will keep the wear even and both sides equaled out.

    • 5

Utilize the middle portion of the bed and the sides equally if possible. This will avoid sagging in the center of the bed and even out the wear to both sides.
