You should check your computer manual for the type of memory it takes.

One of the main components in your laptop or desktop is your memory. The more memory, the more efficient your computer will work. If you determine that you need more memory in your computer, do not fret. Installing more memory takes about 10 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your computer. Unplug all of the cords and cables and let the computer sit for about 10 minutes so it cools. Put the computer tower or laptop on a kitchen table. If you are working on a laptop, remove the battery.

    • 2

Remove the tower panel or the memory compartment hatch door. Check you manual for specific instructions on how to do this. Find the memory module or modules. They will be lying flat in a laptop and standing straight up in a computer tower.

    • 3

Spread the clips away from the memory module if you need to remove it. Slide the memory module out of the computer.

    • 4

Match the notch in the new module with the knob in the slot. Slide the module in the slot at an angle in a laptop. Slide the module straight into a computer tower's slot. The clips will close onto the edges of the module.

    • 5

Close the memory hatch or slide the panel back on the tower, depending on the type of computer you are working on. Plug all of the cords and cables in to the computer and turn it back on.
