How to Make a Rose Pomander for a Bridesmaid

Roses are popular wedding flowers.

Pomander or kissing ball is a creative alternative to the traditional bridesmaid bouquet. A pomander is a spherical bouquet that looks like a ball of roses. Often pomanders are used as wedding decorations or pew markers. A pomander has a handle that can be slipped onto the arm, allowing the possessor to have two free hands while still holding a bouquet. This alternative bouquet is perfect for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls and young members of the wedding party.

Things You'll Need

• Styrofoam ball
• 2 dozen or more faux silk roses
• Wire cutters
• Hot-glue gun
• Hot-glue sticks
• Ruler
• Ribbon
• Greening pins

Instructions

1. Cut the rose heads off the stems with wire cutters. Leave ¼ inch of the stem below each rose head.

2. Poke a hole into the Styrofoam ball with a toothpick. Fill the hole with hot glue. Stick the stem of the rose into the hot glue immediately.

3. Poke a second hole into the Styrofoam next to the attached rose. Squeeze hot glue into the hole. Stick the stem of the second rose into the glue. Continue with the rest of the roses until the Styrofoam is covered in roses.

4. Create a handle by doubling the desired handle length. Cut a piece of ribbon to 3 inches longer than the doubled length. Double-knot the ends of the ribbon together. Attach the knotted end of the ribbon to the top of the pomander with greening pins. Apply hot glue over the greening pins. Let dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Add ribbons to the bottom of the pomander for a decorative look.

• Embellish the rose heads with crystals or pearls to add sparkle.

• Make a small pomander for your flower girl as well. The ribbon handle can be hung from the arm of the young girl, making it easier to handle than a basket.
