How to Run the Humidity Control Settings on a Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers are residential appliances used to control the humidity level of the air in your home. Indoor air that is too moist encourages the growth of mold and mildew and provides a more favorable climate for insect pests, such as fleas and cockroaches. With a dehumidifier, you can run a humidity control setting to remove unwanted moisture from your indoor air and running the control settings is a breeze.

  • Locate the "+" and "-" (plus and minus) humidity control keys on the dehumidifier's control panel.

  • Press the "+" or "-" keys until the desired humidity level is indicated on the control panel display. Note that most manufacturers recommend setting the humidity between 35 and 75 percent for normal operation.

  • Specify how long you want the current humidity control setting to run. Press the "Timer" button to toggle between the "2-Hour" and "4-Hour" options. Indicator lights directly above the "Timer" button show which option is currently selected.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adjust the fan speed for your dehumidifier, if desired. Press the "Fan Speed" button to toggle between the "Low" and "High" fan speed settings.
  • The process to run a humidity control setting on your dehumidifier may vary by appliance brand and model. Contact the manufacturer of your dehumidifier for model-specific operating information, if necessary.
