How to Revert Back From Internet Explorer 8 to My Earlier Version

Unlike Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems are not preloaded with Internet Explorer 8 (IE8). It must be installed directly from the Microsoft website in order to use it. If you are longer interested in IE8 and want to revert to an earlier version such as IE7, uninstalling IE8 automatically reverts to the previous browser. Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 quickly and safely.

      Click the "Start" button and click the "Control Panel."

      Click "Uninstall a Program" if you are using Windows Vista or double-click "Add or Remove Programs" if you are using Windows XP. This launches the programs window.

      Click "View installed updates" (Windows Vista) or "Show updates" (Windows XP).

      Scroll down the programs window and click "Internet Explorer 8." Click "Uninstall" or "Remove." If prompted, enter your administrator password and click "Continue." Confirm your selection. The uninstaller removes Internet Explorer 8. Restart your computer.

      Launch Internet Explorer and click the "Help" menu on the top of your browser. Scroll down the pop-up menu and click "About Internet Explorer." You should see "Internet Explorer 7" or "Internet Explorer 6" in the "Version" section depending on the version you were using previously.

  • Internet Explorer 8 is preinstalled with Windows 7 operating systems, so uninstalling it will not revert to an earlier version.
