How to Take a Screenshot in Media Player

Windows Media Player can play several video formats, including ASF, WMV, AVI and MPEG. Windows Media Player doesn't have a built-in tool to screencap videos, but you can use a Windows keyboard shortcut to take a snapshot of the screen. You can then paste the screenshot into an image editor like Paint and save the picture to the hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start." Click "Computer." Navigate to the folder containing the video file you want to view.

    • 2

Right-click the file. Point to "Open with." Choose "Windows Media Player" from the contextual menu.

    • 3

Pause playback and hold down "Alt" and "Print Screen" to take a screenshot of the video.

    • 4

Click "Start." Click "All Programs," "Accessories," then "Paint." Press "CTRL" and "V" to paste the screenshot into Paint.

    • 5

Use the crop tool to remove the boundary box from the screenshot. Click "File." Click "Save as." Name the file and press "Enter" to save the screen capture to your hard drive. Remember where you saved it.
