How to Gather Diagnostics

Microsoft included a convenient little diagnostic utility with their multimedia technology software drivers known as DirectX. With the diagnostic utility, you can gather information about your computer hardware and even troubleshoot hardware problems. If you are having problems with some hardware in your computer or if you just want to gather more information about it, run the DirectX diagnostic utility.

      Click on the "Run" menu entry.

      Type "dxdiag" into the text box.

      Click "OK."

      Wait a moment for Windows to gather all the diagnostics on your computer and then scroll through the tabs to view all the information about your system.

Tips & Warnings

  • In Windows 7 and Vista you can type "dxdiag" in the search box right in the Start menu.
