How to Reset Honda SRS Lights

Save

Honda is known for manufacturing compact and affordable sedans, coupes, and SUVs, including the popular Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. If the SRS (air bag) light turns on at your Honda's dashboard, it is a warning that there may be something wrong with your Honda's SRS system. You can reset the SRS light on your Honda at the comfort of your own driveway. Resetting the SRS light on your Honda takes very little time.

Things You'll Need

  • Metra Honda speaker harness part #72-7802
  • Electrical tape
  • Cutting tool
  • Park your Honda on an even, level surface.

  • Pull and take off the plastic female disconnects located at the end of the Metra Honda speaker harness.

  • Slice about ½ inch of the wiring's plastic jacket piece, using a cutting tool, and then mount the wiring by applying some electrical tape. This will form a SCS service connector for your Honda.

  • Open the driver's side door of your Honda.

  • Take off and pull downwards on the Memory Erase Signal connector (MES), a yellow-colored part that is mounted to two wires at the rear of the Honda's fuse box, at the driver's side.

  • Turn off your Honda's ignition and connect the end tip of the SCS Service connector with the end tip of the MES plug.

  • Turn on your Honda's ignition for the SRS light to light up for about six seconds, and then it will automatically turn off.

  • Pull and disconnect the SCS Service connector from your Honda's MES plug for the SRS light to light up once again.

  • Connect the end tip of the SCS Service connector with the end tip of the MES plug, once again, for the SRS light to turn off.

  • Pull and disconnect the SCS Service connector from your Honda's MES plug for the SRS light to flash two times. This will reset you Honda SRS light's memory.

  • Turn on your Honda's ignition and anticipate ten seconds for your Honda's SRS light to flash once and then it will automatically turn off.
