Instructions on How to Iron on Patches
It is inevitable that our favorite items of clothing will develop tears and holes over time. Although no piece of clothing will last forever, you can prolong the life of your favorite items of clothing by repairing tears and holes with patches. Iron-on patches are among the easiest to use, and they can also be reinforced with stitching to strengthen the repair. If used correctly, patches can repair and hide the damage and prolong the life of your clothing.

1
Place your shirt or pants inside out on an ironing board. Make sure the tear or hole is facing up. Flatten the piece of clothing out to make it easier to work.
-
2
Turn on your iron and set it to the heat setting specified by the iron-on patch instructions. Place the iron-on patch over the tear in the clothing. Once the iron has warmed up, begin to iron the patch on by pacing the iron back and forth slowly over the patch three or more times until it begins to bond to the clothing.

Turn the clothing right side out and place it back onto the ironing board. Cut any stray threads around the patched hole with a pair of scissors. Sew around the patched area to further secure the patch to the clothing. Sew around the tear once or twice with a needle and thread.
