How to Use a Receiving Blanket as a Flat Diaper
Typical newborn receiving blankets have several things going for them as raw material for cloth diapers. They are normally made of soft, cotton flannel, making them perfect to touch baby's sensitive skin. The fabric is easy to work with and doesn't require excessive seaming, as it does not unravel. Receiving blankets are also easy to clean and relatively inexpensive. You'll need to be at least somewhat handy with a sewing machine to completely this project.

Wash your receiving blanket to preshrink it. Cut the blanket in half across the length for a newborn to 6-month-old baby, cut one-third from the top of the blanket for a 6- to 12-month-old baby and leave the blanket whole for a toddler. One blanket makes two small, one medium or one large to extra-large diaper.

2
Lay the blanket on your work surface with a short edge toward you. Fold the blanket into a "Z" shape, first bringing the left edge over to the right and then folding it back. The result should be the center two-thirds of the blanket with three layers and the outer one-sixth on each side with one layer. Press these folds in place and then pin along them.
