Crown molding requires that two flat surfaces on a piece of crown molding are at angles that when added together equal 90 degrees. Compound miter saws are the ideal saw for installing crown molding. Properly fitting crown molding depends on accuracy, and the miter saw easily delivers this accuracy. There are a couple of ways to install crown molding with a miter saw, one of which is to cut molding angled between the fence and base of the saw for all the cuts. Does this Spark an idea?

      Angle the molding so the bottom is against the fence and the top is against the saw. The bottom of the molding is the part that goes against the wall. The back of the molding must rest squarely on the fence and base.

      Make inside corner cuts. Make an inside corner on the left side by making a miter cut right at 45 degrees and saving the right side of the cut. Make an inside corner on the right side by mitering left at 45 degrees and saving the left side of the cut.

      Make outside corner cuts. Make a left side cut by mitering left at 45 degrees and saving the right side of the cut. Make a right side cut by mitering right at 45 degrees and saving the left side of the cut.
