How to: DSN Call
A DSN, also known as Defense Switched Network, was developed by the Department of Defense to secure reliable long-distance communication between agencies. This dial-up network can be used by anyone, not just the DD. A DSN call is for official business only, not for personal calls. Agencies can make DSN calls using specified numbers. However, civilians must utilize an operator to place a successful call.

Research the DSN area code for the part of the world where you would like to place the call. You have to know this three-digit number before you can place a DSN call.
-
2
Dial the local DSN operator if this is a civilian call. Otherwise dial the specific DSN number if this call is within an agency network.

-
3
Give the operator the commercial number you wish to call. He or she will transfer you by using DNS and local switchboard lines.

4
Wait a few seconds, and you should be connected to your party.
