How to Clean the Plumbing of a Hot Tub

Clean your hot tub with bleach.

A hot tub gives you a luxurious massaging experience that you can enjoy with friends and family members. Although you only see the surface of the hot tub, the intricate plumbing system inside the unit needs to be cleaned out along with the surface of the hot tub. The water and residue that float through the plumbing system is washed right back out into the tub as you soak, making it important to clean the entire unit at once.

Things You'll Need

• Dishwasher detergent
• Bleach

Instructions

1. Fill the hot tub with water so all jet line openings are underwater.

2. Pour 1/4 cup of dishwasher detergent or 2 dishwasher detergent tablets into the water.

3. Pour 1/2 cup of bleach into the water and run the jets on high for 15 minutes. This allows the water and cleaners to flush through the entire plumbing system, disinfecting all surfaces while removing soap scum and residue.

4. Drain the tub, refill with water and run your jets to flush out any leftover cleaner.
