How to Repair Internet Explorer Script Errors

Script errors are messages that are displayed when the script behind a program or function experiences an unexpected condition that it does not understand. If you are using Internet Explorer, there are many reasons this can happen, from a problem at the source end of the function to underlying problems within your system. For problems that originate at your end, there are a few simple ways that you can repair the error.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the Tools menu in Internet Explorer and click on the selection called "Internet Options."

    • 2

Click on the tab called "Advanced" and select "Disable script bugging" by clicking on the check box. Press "OK" to save the changes.

    • 3

Move to the Security tab if you experience script errors on more than two Web pages. Set Security to "Default Level" and click "OK" to save the change.

    • 4

Select the tab called "General" and click on "Settings" under the Temporary Internet Files section.

    • 5

Choose "Delete Files" and "Delete Cookies" and confirm each action by pressing "OK" when prompted. Delete the History list, as well, under the History tab.

    • 6

Install the most recent version of Internet Explorer and the latest service pack for the software. These releases often have corrections for bugs and other causes of errors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try visiting a different website after seeing a script error; if you have no further trouble, the error was probably on the site's end.

  • If the errors do not cease, contact Microsoft for assistance.
