Pineapple is a sweet, tropical fruit. Whether you picked up a pineapple to make a batch of Pina Coladas or you're tossing some in your famous fruit salad, if you don't use the whole fruit, don't just toss out the leftovers. Proper storage is important as soon as you get the fruit home, even if you don't cut into it right away. Store your cut up or whole pineapple in the fridge the right way to keep it fresh longer.       Cut up the pineapple or store it uncut at room temperature for one to two days. Cut pineapple must be used quicker than uncut pineapple. If you don't use your whole, uncut pineapple after two days, store the whole fruit in the fridge.

      Put a whole, uncut pineapple into a plastic grocery bag. Tie the bag up and put it in the fridge. Store the whole pineapple for three to five days in the refrigerator.

      Place cut pineapple in an air-tight bowl. Add the juice from the pineapple to the bowl to help the fruit retain its freshness. Store it in the refrigerator for two to four days.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can tell if pineapple is rotten by the texture, color and the way it smells. The pineapple has gone bad if it turns a brownish color, is mushy and soft and/or has an unpleasant odor.
