How to Make Bath Salts for a Bride

Bath salts make everyday baths feel soothing and luxurious.

Homemade bath salts are an easy, cost-efficient alternative to the expensive store-bought varieties. They can be made using a few simple ingredients, including different types of salt and essential oils. Handmade bath salts make an ideal gift for a bride on her wedding day; they can be decorated and scented in ways to remind her of that special day, and can be used while she relaxes during the honeymoon.

Things You'll Need

• Epsom salt
• Sea salt
• Glycerin (optional)
• Essential oil
• Food coloring
• Printable jar label
• Decorations (ribbon, lace, twine, flower petals, glitter)

Instructions

1. Combine 1 cup of Epsom salt and 1/4 cup of sea salt in a large bowl.

2. Add 1 or 2 drops of glycerin if desired. Glycerin is a skin moisturizer that is a nice touch for bath salts.

3. Add several drops of essential oil. Choose the scent based on the wedding: Lavender matches well for a spring or garden wedding, while fir needle or peppermint suit a winter or Christmas wedding.

4. Add several drops of food coloring to the bath salts. Match the color to the scent and theme of the wedding -- purple for lavender-scented salts or light blue for peppermint-scented salts.

5. Stir the mixture well, using a wooden spoon, until the ingredients are combined. Pour the bath salts into the glass jar.

6. Decorate the jar. Tie a ribbon in one of the bride's wedding colors around the mouth of the jar and sprinkle petals from her wedding flowers on top of the bath salts if desired. For a rustic, country-themed wedding, use twine instead of ribbon. Make a printable label using the wedding date, or a similar sentiment, and stick it on the front of the jar.

7. Present the bride with your gift at her wedding or another appropriate time. She will truly appreciate a handmade gift that is both useful and sentimental. Once the jar is empty, the bride will have a wedding keepsake to treasure.
