When it comes to garbage, there are all types of ways for trash to be collected and picked up. Most people will gather their trash, place it in containers and put it out on the curb for a garbage truck to pick up. Some apartment dwellers place their trash in dumpsters located in their apartment complex. Typically, the residential trash carting companies have a significant market share, due to the sheer size of the municipality accounts. However, there is still a growing opportunity to start a carting company for residential purposes and construction use.
Obtain a commercial driver's license or CDL. Contact your local truck driving school and take their course. After passing the written exam, you will be required to take a driver's test.
Contact a used truck sales dealer. Look for a roll-off dumpster truck. The dumpster is also called a cart; these carts come in all sizes. Size is measured in yards. It’s helpful if you can start off with the truck itself and obtain carts of various sizes, such as 20 and 30 yards. Typically, you will need to put down 10 to 20 percent of the total purchase price, but your truck dealer should be able to help you get financing.
Start advertising. Contact local construction companies; they need dumpster carts to gather and place their trash and other construction waste. Place ads in the newspaper. Homeowners need dumpster carts if they are renovating their homes, re-landscaping or replacing their roof shingles.
County your county land fill department. They will advise you on where to dump your customers' waste and the costs to accomplish this. Some waste management companies can offer this service to you, as well.
