If you're having a dessert buffet for a wedding, a holiday party or simply a dinner party, consider livening things up with a few decorations. Desserts will look more appealing when placed in an aesthetically pleasing way, and the table can tie in with the theme or colors of your event to look beautiful. Plan the dessert menu beforehand so you know where everything will go and what the colors used will be. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Select the theme for your table. If it's a Christmas party, the theme can be holiday decorations. For a wedding, consider the colors.

    • 2

Think about what will be served. Will there be individualized desserts, like cookies and cupcakes, or larger items such as cakes and pies? The way the desserts are presented can be a decoration in itself, depending on what you are serving.

    • 3

Choose presentation items. Show off your desserts to highlight your food. Serve cookies and candy stacked in clear glass jars, and put cakes and pies on pedestals of different heights to create a visually interesting buffet table. Place cupcakes on platters, divided by flavors.

    • 4

Place several vases of flowers that tie into your theme around the desserts. Tie ribbons around the vases for added decoration.

    • 5

Make decorations from food. Pile lemons or limes in a glass vase with a few blooms sticking out, or create a lollipop decoration by sticking big, colorful lollipops into any type of container and tying ribbons around it. Colorful candy such as M & Ms or jellybeans can be put in small glass jars and set around the dessert table for decorations.

    • 6

Throw in some seasonal decorations. For a Christmas party, place small snow globes or ornaments around the desserts. For a Halloween buffet, mini plastic pumpkins or Halloween-shaped candle holders with taper candles in them make cute decorations.

    • 7

Think about drinks. Display colorful punch in clear glasses or cute cocktail glasses with colorful stirrers. Punch for kids can be served with a rock candy stirrer, and punch or champagne for adults can be in pretty glasses, especially if the punch or champagne is colored and the color matches the decor.
