Weber Grill Cooking Instructions

Save

With a Weber grill, you can broil or roast your food. Weber refers to these methods of cooking as the direct and indirect method. With the direct method, you cook your food directly over the heat source. It is best for foods that take less than 25 minutes to cook, like pork chops and kabobs. The indirect method is designed to provide a circulating heat, similar to a convection oven, to cook foods like ribs, turkeys and roasts.

Things You'll Need

  • Newspaper or fuel cubes
  • Lighter fluid
  • Charcoal briquets
  • Lighter
  • Barbecue fork

Charcoal

  • Place fuel cubes or crumbled newspaper on the charcoal grate.

  • Drop charcoal briquets on top of the cubes or newspaper. Form the briquets into a pyramid.

  • Coat the briquets with a liberal amount of lighter fluid. This is not necessary for fast-lighting briquets.

  • Light the charcoal briquets. Allow the briquets to heat for about 25 minutes. When they appear light gray and coated with ash, they are ready.

  • Spread the charcoal briquets evenly across the grate for the direct method, or move the briquets to either side of the grate for the indirect method. Don't touch with your hands; use a barbecue fork or other heat-resistant tool to move the briquets.

  • Close the grill lid and allow it to preheat to between 500 and 550 degrees Fahrenheit. This will take about five to seven minutes. Place your food on the cooking grate.

Gas

  • Open the grill lid and tank valve.

  • Turn the front/first burner to high. Wait two to three seconds for the gas chamber to fill.

  • Push the igniter button firmly until the burner lights. It should light after only one or two pushes of the igniter button.

  • Turn the middle burner to high after the first burner is lit. Wait two or three seconds for the gas chamber to fill. Push the igniter button again and the middle burner should light. Repeat this process to light the remaining burners.

  • Close the grill lid and allow it to preheat on high to between 500 and 550 degrees Fahrenheit. This will take about five to seven minutes.

  • Place your food on the cooking grate. Then adjust the burners to the preferred temperature. To grill using the direct method, keep the grill lid closed and only open it to check on or turn over the food. To grill using the indirect method, turn off the burner located directly beneath the food, keep the other burners on high.
