Instructions

    • 1

Access the website of the Embassy of Niger in the United States (embassyofniger.org; 2204 R St. NW, Washington, DC; 202-483-4224). Click on the "Consular Forms" link on the left side of the page. This will open a page with a long list of forms -- in French.

    • 2

Click on the fourth form on the list: "Prorogation de Passeport." This means, literally, "extension of passport." This opens the passport renewal form as an Adobe PDF file.

    • 3

Print and fill out the form. Make a copy of the form, as you will need to present two copies in order to request that your passport be renewed. Make a second copy, to keep for your records.

    • 4

Gather the other required documentation. Aside from two copies of the passport renewal form, you will need two passport photos and a passport renewal fee of $84.46, as of March 2011. You may also need your birth certificate, copies of your previous passport and your national identity document.

    • 5

Mail copies of these documents to the Niger Embassy in Washington, DC. Niger does not have consulates outside of Washington, DC, so you will have to use the main embassy.

    • 6

Mail copies of these documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Niamey if you are attempting to renew a passport from within Niger. Alternately, you can present them in person.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not speak French, you will need to have your passport renewal form translated into another language; the entire form is in French and the website does not offer versions in other languages. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, the website offers a link to a download so that you can open the passport renewal form.

  • The Ministry of the Interior in Niamey has no website. The website of the Niger Embassy in Washington, DC, is very basic and does not support a system through which a citizen could submit a passport renewal request. Passport renewal requests must be mailed or presented in person to either institution.
