How to Kill Scale Bugs
Scale insects are a nuisance for many gardeners as they attach themselves and suck the vital juices from the leaves of plants. Ash, hemlock, poplar, maple and willow trees are only a few of the plants that scale will attack, infest and damage. Scale can produce wilting, stunting, yellowing and even death as the juices are sucked from leaves. Carbaryl powder is an pesticide that is useful in the control of scale. Does this Spark an idea?

Identify scale insects on the leaves of plants. Look for small wax covered patches on leaves or for leaves and plants with signs of damage or an unhealthy appearance.

Put on rubber gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask if desired. Take proper precautions to avoid breathing in or prolonged contact with Carbaryl powder.

Remove the top from a shaker can. Add enough Carbaryl powder to the can to cover the leaves that are infested with scale insects.

Shake the Carbaryl powder onto the leaves of infested trees and shrubs. Coat the top and as much of the bottom of the leaf as possible.

Monitor the trees that are infested for the next five to seven days. Follow the manufacturer's directions for a second application of Carbaryl powder if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
Keep children and pets out of the application area until all of the Carbaryl powder has settled.
Wash the Carbaryl powder from skin immediately with running water.
