How to Reinstall Windows XP on a Toshiba
Reinstalling or recovering the operating system reverts the computer back to the default settings. Toshiba includes a built-in hard drive utility to help you reinstall the original operating system without having to hold on to a set of recovery disks or additional software. The reinstall process resolves troubleshooting issues caused by system errors and unstable settings, but be warned: all files saved to the hard drive are removed during the process. Click "Start" and "Shutdown." Click "Shutdown" again to turn off the computer.

Turn the computer on and hold down the "0" (zero) key while the computer turns back on. Keep the button depressed until the "Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility" appears on the screen.

Press "1" to select "Restore Original Factory Image" to reinstall the Windows XP operating system. Click "Yes" in the confirmation pop up to begin reinstalling the operating system.

Press any key on the keyboard once the reinstall is complete to restart the computer with the XP operating system in place.
