Things You'll Need

  • Small saucepan
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • ½ medium onion chopped
  • ½ tsp. grated ginger
  • ¼ cup finely diced pineapple
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. chili garlic sauce
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • Small bowl
  • Hand whisk
  • ¼ cup broth (chicken or vegetable)

Instructions

      Pour the vegetable oil into the saucepan. Heat the pan over medium-high heat until hot.

      Add the onions to the pan and stir until they are softened. Add the ginger and stir the mixture for an additional 30 seconds.

      Stir the pineapple, vinegar, ketchup, chili garlic sauce and sugar into the pan. Bring the pan to a simmer. Continue stirring and allow the ingredients to cook for three minutes.

      Combine the broth and cornstarch in the small bowl. Whisk the mixture until it becomes smooth. Pour the mixture into the saucepan and bring the pan to a boil.

      Cook for an additional minute, then remove the pan from the heat. Use the sauce in your stir-fry recipe as directed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before adding it to your stir-fry, you can pour the finished sauce into a food processor or blender and pulse several times for a smoother sauce.
