Roulette is a fun game of chance that has set probabilities of victory.

Roulette is a fun game of chance that is very common in Las Vegas casinos, as well as gambling parlors around the world. Players place wagers on one of 38 different numbers -- or on three different qualities of those numbers. A marble is rolled around a rotating wheel, landing on a winning number. Using simple math, the standardized payout is easy to calculate.

Instructions

Find the least likely wager, which is a bet on one particular number. The payout for these wagers is 35 to 1 -- So if you wagered $100, your return would be $3,500, if you guessed correctly.

The chances are 1 in 38 or 2.63 percent. Each new wager that is added, increases your odds by 2.63 percent, until 100 percent is reached.

Find the payout for wagers on a twelve number block. The choices include numbers 1 through 12 -- 13 through 24 -- and 25 through 36. The payout for these is 2 to 1. In other words, a $100 wager would receive a $200 payout, if correct.

The probability of this event is 12 divided by 38, which is 31.58 percent.

Calculate the payout for the simplest wager -- betting that the number will be even or odd -- red or black. In each case, the payout is 1 to 1. That means that a $100 wager will yield a $100 return.

There are two numbers, the 0 and 00 that are neither red nor black, even nor odd. Due to these extra numbers, the odds are less than 50 percent that your wager will be victorious in this category. In fact, the odds are 47.37 percent.
