How to Make Corner Bookmarks

There are a number of different ways people like to mark their place in a book, from the simple dog-eared turn of a page to the elaborately styled bookmark. When you are reading a lengthy book, dog eared reminders can become confusing as they begin to multiply, and expensive bookmarks can get lost or misplaced. With just a few simple household objects you can make your own fully customizable corner bookmark.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardstock or scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil or marker
  • Glue
  • Cut the cardstock or scrapbook paper into 6- by 4-inch section of paper.

  • Mark 2 inches up and 2 inches over on the 4-inch right side. Mark every 2 inches on the lower 6-inch side. Using the ruler, form a box in the bottom right corner using the 2-inch markings.

  • Lay the ruler down so the line intersects with the corner, the upper left corner of the bottom right square and the second 2-inch marker from the right side, forming a straight line. Mark a line to form a triangle on top of the square.

  • Cut away the square and triangle from the paper using the scissors.

  • Fold over the bottom right corner into a triangle using the 2-inch markers to see where to fold to.

  • Fold the top left triangle downward to form a house-shaped design.

  • Fold the bottom lip upward until it's just touching the folded top.

  • Glue the folded bottom and top flap down to create a pocket for the pages to fit into.

  • Allow the bookmark to dry before using.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can decorate your bookmark using blank paper and pencils, glitter and glue or even origami to customize your bookmark.
