How to Measure a Window For Screen Size

Save

Measuring a window that does not have old screens for screen size can be tricky because all windows are slightly different. However, if you take the measurements of the inside of the frame of the window properly, you can find a screen that fits perfectly.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Open the window you want to measure and look for the screen tracks. These will be on the outside of the window frame.

  • Press the measuring tape to the furthest point inside of the left side of the screen track and stretch out the tape to the right side of the screen track. You will have to take the measurement from outside of the screen track on this side. Simply measure to where the edge of the screen track meets the window. Subtract 1/16 of an inch and this will be the width of the screen.

  • Press the measuring tape to the furthest point inside of the top of the screen track and stretch out the tape to the bottom of the screen track. Again, you will have to take the measurement from outside of the screen track on the bottom. Measure to where the edge of the screen track meets the window. Subtract 1/16 of an inch and this will be the height of the screen. With these two measurements, you will be able to find a screen that fits your window.
