1
Put your hand around the edges of the window that you are soundproofing and feel for air. Sound escapes through the spots where you feel the air. Apply caulk to seal these areas before installing the foam.
-
2
Measure the windows that you want to soundproof. It is vital that you measure them correctly, because any discrepancies will allow sound to get past the foam and out the window.
-
-
3
Cut the soundproof foam to the exact dimensions of the window. Make sure you cut the foam in straight lines and follow the measurements exactly. The foam you are cutting has to fit the window perfectly to stop the sound.
-
4
Gently put your square of cut foam within the window frame. Do not press it aggressively against the window pane as you want to ensure that an air pocket remains between the window and the foam.
-
5
If you feel the need to make sure the foam is secure, you can place masking tape around any gaps between the foam and the window frame. This is not absolutely necessary, as the window is already soundproof if the foam covers it properly, but the tape will create a more stable seal and keep the foam firmly in place.
