How to Make Charger Plates
Add flare to your table setting with charger plates. Charger plates are placed under the dinner plate and each course of the meal is placed on top of them. They are purely for decorative purposes and do not have to be actual food-grade plates. Charger plates can be matched to your home décor as well as the décor at an event like a wedding. To save money and add a creative flare to your table setting, you can make your own charger plates. Does this Spark an idea?

Paint the wooden charger plate a coordinating color. Several coats may be needed to cover the wood properly. The addition of decorative painting can be added if preferred. Sections can be taped off to create additional decoration while painting.

2
Add decorative items to the edges of the plate. The dinner plate will be placed on top of the charger, so only the edges should be decorated. When using glass stones, glue them around the outer edge of the plate so they will be seen by the guests. Silk flowers and foliage can be glued to the underside of the edge of the plate to give the effect that the charger is sitting on a bed of greens or flowers. Bobbles can be added by drilling holes in the edge of the wood charger and hooking them on using a large jump ring. Chargers with bobbles make ideal party favors.
