How Do You Put Music Into Folders on an iPod?

The Apple iPod allows you to segment your music into folders. These folders are called "playlists." Each playlist contains selected music on your iPod. A playlist allows you to play only certain MP3s, instead of shuffling all songs on your iPod drive. Playlists separate your music by type, genre or habits such as a workout playlist. These folders show up on your iPod interface after you create them in iTunes.

Instructions

1. Connect your iPod to the computer using the USB cable; iTunes automatically opens when you connect an iPod to the USB port. If iTunes does not start maximized, double-click the icon in the Windows system tray.

2. Click the "iPod" icon in the left panel. Click the iTunes "File" menu item, then click "Create New Playlist." Type a name for your playlist. Notice the playlist icon is added to the left panel.

3. Click the "Music" icon at the top of the left panel. This section shows you all the iTunes music saved on your local hard drive.

4. Drag and drop your songs from the "Music" section to the new playlist folder shown in the left panel. Repeat this step until you copy each song you want to add to the playlist.

5. Click the "Eject" button next to the iPod icon. The computer removes the iPod, so you can safely remove the iPod from the USB port.
