Protect your dog's paw from harsh weather with dog boots.

They may look a little silly at first, but there are several benefits to protecting your dog's paws by having it wear dog boots. By providing a barrier between the dog's paw and the environment, dog boots provide protection from cuts, burns, blisters, thorns, cold weather and harsh terrain. Dog boots are made for a variety of purposes and come in an array of styles, but the first step to buying any pair is to correctly measure your dog's paw.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk your dog onto a hard and flat concrete, linoleum or wood surface.

    • 2

Place a sheet of paper beneath a front paw. Lift the other front paw to get your dog to put more weight on the paw being measured for the most accurate measurement.

    • 3

Mark the paper at the paw's widest points on both the left and right side. Measure the length of the dog's paw by making a mark at the base of the pad and at the end of the nails.

    • 4

Measure the distance between the two marks indicating the width using a ruler and write down the measurement in both inches and centimeters. Repeat to find the length.

    • 5

Compare the measurements against a sizing chart at your local pet store or online to find your dog's boot size.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's a good idea to measure in both inches and centimeters because some sizing charts use only one or the other.

  • Compare your measurements to the sizing chart specific to the dog boot you would like to buy as not all boots use the same sizing system.
