Eighteen-volt batteries are used in a variety of large cordless power tools, such as drills and nail guns. Like any other battery, these units need to be charged before they can operate properly. Plug your 18-volt battery charger into an available wall outlet. An 18-volt charger can be purchased form most hardware or electronics stores.

Remove the 18-volt battery from the device it powers and slide the battery into the port on the top of the charger. Make sure the metal connectors on the battery line up with the terminals on the battery charger. You will know the battery is connected properly when you see the green LED light on the front of the charger light up. This signifies that the unit is charging.

Wait until the LED light on the front of the charger flashes red. This will signal that the charging is fully completed. You can now remove the battery from the charger and replace it in the device it powers.
