How to Dig With a Grubbing Hoe
A grubbing hoe, also known as a grub hoe or azada, is a gardening tool used to loosen soil, dig holes and remove weeds. It has a long handle and a thin, rectangular blade with a sharp, squared-off edge. The hoe uses gravity to assist in the digging process, unlike shoveling. It also has a narrower blade than other varieties of garden hoes. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Hold the hoe with one hand on the end of the handle and the other hand one-third of the way down the handle toward the blade. Your thumbs should point toward the blade end of the hoe.
-
2
Lift the grubbing hoe so it is parallel to the ground and at the height of your hips. Forcefully chop the blade downwards into the soil.

3
Lean back slightly and pull on the handle without allowing your hands to slide up or down the handle. The hoe blade will pull the soil up and towards you.
-
4
Repeat the chopping and pulling motions in the same spot if you need to dig deeper, or move over slightly and repeat the motions to make the hole wider.
