How to Locate a Rheem RGPH-12EARJR Furnace Limit Switch

Save

The Rheem Manufacturing Company has been producing residential and commercial HVAC equipment since the mid-1920s. Rheem produces a popular line of high-efficiency gas furnaces, such as the Criterion II RGPH-12EARJR, with annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) ratings of between 78 and 95 percent. If the fan in your Rheem Criterion II furnace malfunctions, you'll have to know how to locate the fan limit switch before you can troubleshoot or repair it. Locating the limit switch in your furnace is a simple process that requires no tools or expertise.

  • Grasp the sides of the furnace's top front access panel. Lift up on the panel while simultaneously pulling it toward you. Set the removed furnace panel aside.

  • Locate the furnace plenum; the plenum is a metal box that is screwed to the top of the upper furnace housing.

  • Locate the limit switch, a flat, round component mounted to the side of the furnace plenum. Note that in a Rheem Criterion II RGPH-12EARJR furnace, the limit switch is tucked inside its own compartment. Remove the compartment cover to access the limit switch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consult your owner's manual for information on how to reset or adjust a Rheem furnace limit switch.
  • Avoid performing unauthorized repairs on a warrantied Rheem furnace as doing so may void the manufacturer's warranty. Contact Rheem customer service to obtain additional appliance repair and warranty information.
