While some people try to avoid tan lines, others see them as being attractive or even as being a form of art. Some people even go so far as to give themselves a "tan tattoo." You may want a shaped tan line in the form of a recognizable picture, or you may simply want some contoured lines. Either way, you can create the tan shapes that you want through a variety of methods.

Things You'll Need

  • Sun block
  • Stickers
  • Cut-out swimsuit

Wear clothing that covers areas that you don't want tanned. If you just want contoured lines, you can wear a swimsuit while tanning.

Wear a swimsuit that has a specially designed tanning cut-out. When you tan in this type of swimsuit, the cut out shape will leave a tanned area on part of your skin that is otherwise untanned.

Place stickers of various shapes and sizes on your skin before you start tanning. The area under the sticker will remain untanned, while the skin around it will become darker. If you want to use this method multiple times, be sure to place the same type of sticker in the same exact position on your skin each time.

Create a shape or pattern on your skin using sunblock with a high SPF. Cover the parts of your skin that you want to be darker with a sunblock that has a lower SPF.

Tips & Warnings

  • Exposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer.
