You can perform a hard reset on your TomTom GPS device when necessary. A hard reset will wipe all saved data from the device, including points of interest, addresses, favorites and recent destinations. This option resets the device back to its factory defaults. Doing this makes it impossible for a future owner of the TomTom to retrace where you've been with the GPS. This is a very useful feature if you decide to sell your old TomTom or give it away as a gift.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button on your TomTom to activate the device. If it is already powered on, skip this step.

Step 2

Tap the "Settings" option and choose "Change Preferences." The "Reset Factory Settings" button should appear. If it does not, tap "Show ALL menu options."

Step 3

Tap the "Reset Factory Settings" icon. Tapping this icon will reset the TomTom to its factory defaults and all your saved data will be deleted in the process.
