How to Save Movies in Media Center

Windows Media Center is a front-end media player application. It wasdeveloped by Microsoft and is native to the Windows 7 software suite. In addition to managing pictures and music, Windows Media Center can be used to organize any movies that are stored on your computer. Users can save a movie in Windows Media Center by targeting the location of the digital video source file. Once the location has been targeted, any other media that is saved in the parent folder will automatically load in the Windows Media Center movie library.

      Launch Windows Media Center. Scroll to "Tasks" on the program screen and click the icon. Select "Settings."

      Click "Manage Libraries" and select "Movies." Click "Next."

      Select "Add folders to the monitor." Click "Next."

      Browse for the folder where the movie's digital video source file is located. Click the "+" button and then check the box next to the folder. Click "Next."

      Select "Yes" in the "Set up my library" dialog box. Click "Finish." The media will populate in the Windows Media Center library.

Tips & Warnings

  • Digital video formats that are supported by Windows Media Center include WMV, WM, ASF, AVI, MPG and DVR-MS. If a movie's source file is not compatible with Windows Media Center, the media can be encoded into a supported format with the aid of a video conversion program.
