Learn how to take screenshots and print them from the computer.

Most computers come with a feature that allows you to take a snapshot of the screen. For PC users, this feature is housed in a button on the keyboard. For Mac users, a small software program called Grab is used to capture either the full screen or a portion of the screen. Both of these features convert the snapshot into an image file and store the image where your computer is set up to store images, which is often in a picture file or on the desktop.

Instructions

  1. PC

    • 1

Select the keyboard button labeled "Print Screen" if you are using a PC. The print screen feature will capture the entire screen; if you want to capture just the content, click "Alt" and "Print Screen."

    • 2

Open a program that allows you to insert files or images. This may be a word-processing or a photo-handling program.

    • 3

Open a "New File" or "New Document." Hold down the "Ctrl" key, and press the "V" key at the same time. This is a shortcut pasting command. The screenshot should be pasted into the new file or document.

Select "Print" or the printer icon, and save and print your file or document on your printer.

Click on the screenshot, and select "File" and "Save As." Save the file with the name and type you want.

Locate the image of the screenshot, and select the image. Click on "Save," and the image will paste to the new document or file. Save your document by going to "File" and "Save As." Name the document, and save it to your file location.

Tips & Warnings

  • Save your image files in a format such as .jpg or .gif as this will make them easier to handle in other software programs.
