Instructions for Faze Tach Installation

by Daniel Valladares

Although many modern vehicles come equipped with a tachometer that allows you to monitor the revolutions of your engine, you might want a different or more accurate tachometer. One popular choice is the Faze Tach, which can be mounted to the steering wheel of a vehicle and installed with little hassle. As all the wiring for the tachometer is included on the instrument cluster, the Faze Tach can be installed in under half an hour.

Step 1

Open your vehicle's hood and, with a socket wrench, remove the battery's negative terminal.

Step 2

Remove the screws from the upper steering column cover and pry the cover off. Place the tachometer band clamp on the steering column cover and mark the spots where the screws need to be installed. Use a drill and an 11/64-inch drill bit to drill holes for the screws.

Step 3

Place the tachometer band clamp onto the steering column cover and secure it by installing the two screws included with the tach. Make sure that the lock washers are placed in between the two brackets. Place the Faze Tach device onto the band clamp, making sure it clicks into place.

Step 4

Remove the screws or bolts from your vehicle's instrument cluster. Most vehicles use screws, but some foreign manufacturers use bolts or Torx screws to secure the cluster to the vehicle. Once the cluster is loose, disconnect its central wiring connector. Connect the Faze Tach connection to the central wiring connector.

Step 5

Reattach the cluster into the dashboard and reinstall its fasteners. Reattach the upper steering column cover and its screws. Reconnect the battery and close the hood of your vehicle.
