SKIP-BO Playing Directions

Mattel's SKIP-BO is a card game similar to Solitaire for two to six players age 7 and up. The object of the game is get rid of all of the cards in your "stock" pile in numerical order starting with 1 and ending with 12. The game comes with everything you need to play and preparation requires only a minute or two.

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle and cut the entire 162-card deck. Each player draws a card and the player with the highest card, excluding SKIP-BO cards, deals.

    • 2

Deal 30 cards to each player if four or less people are playing. If five or six are playing, deal out 20 cards to each player. Each player's stack of cards will serve as their stock pile.

    • 3

Place the remaining cards in the center of the playing area to be used as the "draw" pile.

    • 4

Place your stock pile to the right of your playing field. The top card of the stock pile always must be facing up.

    • 5

Take turns drawing cards from the draw pile. Each player draws five cards. Any player that uses all five cards in his hand draws five more and continues to play. On subsequent turns, draw enough cards to return your hand to five cards.

    • 6

Start a "building" pile next to the draw pile in the center of the playing area if you have a 1 or a wild SKIP-BO card. Players must add to the building pile in sequential order. Up to four building piles may be started during a game. Any player can add to any building pile on her turn.

    • 7

Place cards you don't want to use in your "discard" pile. Each player can have up to four discard piles in front of him. However, only the top cards of the discard piles can be played into the building piles. When you can no longer play cards from your hand, discard one card onto a discard pile and your turn ends.

    • 8

Play cards from either your hand, discard pile or stock pile into the building pile. The first player to get rid of all of the cards in their stock pile wins.

Tips & Warnings

  • Because the purpose of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your stock pile, try to use those cards before the cards in your hand or discard piles when adding onto the building piles.
