How to Glue Clear Acrylic Sealed Items

Glue acrylic sealed items with the right kind of glue.

Many different projects call for an item sealed with clear acrylic to be glued to another surface, including jewelry and other crafts. You will need to use the right kind of glue, one that will have a strong bond that lasts for a long time. Hot glue becomes brittle and yellows and super glue can eat through the surface of some materials, like the backs of rhinestones. Even with the right glue, you should make sure that the acrylic sealed item is attached properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the surface of the acrylic sealed item and the surface you will be gluing it to with a lint free cloth. The surfaces must be clean so the epoxy can have the best grip, and so that no dust will show through if the item is transparent.

Take the cap off the tube of E6000 glue or clear Gorilla Glue Epoxy and touch the end of a pin to the glue. Epoxy glue is very thick, so you only need a small amount. It can get very messy if any epoxy squeezes out from under the acrylic item as you press it down, so apply it with a pin to help prevent the mess.

Apply the glue on the end of the pin to the center of the spot where you want to affix the acrylic sealed item. Gently press the back of the item to the glue and wait 24 hours before handling the project. Epoxy glue dries within minutes, but it takes about a day to cure.
