How to Lace Up a Bobbin
Bobbins consist of a long narrow spindle with a handle on it. They are used to make pieces of lace. Some bobbins come with beaded weights on their ends which holds them in place while the lace is being made. A pattern is set on a pillow with pre-marked or prick-out pin holes on it. White thread is laced or wound around the bobbins. The bobbins are twisted and moved around a pattern. Pins are used to hold each twisted thread down to the pattern as the lace is being made.

1
Wind the lace thread around the wooden spool. This will make it easier to lace the thread onto your bobbins and prevent it from knotting up on you.
-
2
Place a bobbin in your left hand. Pick up the end of the thread on the wooden spool with your right hand. Start winding the thread clockwise over and away from yourself onto the bobbin. Lace as much thread as you can onto the bobbin, making even turns around the bobbin with the thread as you do so. Cut the thread once you have run out of room on the bobbin.

3
Pick up another bobbin and hold it in your left hand with the first bobbin. Pick up the end of the thread that was laced around the first bobbin and wind half of it onto the second bobbin in a clockwise direction, leaving 6 inches of thread between each bobbin.

4
Secure the lace thread onto the top bulb like end of the bobbin. Take the end of the thread on the first bobbin and wrap it twice around your left pointer finger. Hook the two loops of thread over the bulb like end with your fingers. Pull the end of the thread through the center of the two loops so that it makes a loose hitch knot onto the end of the bobbin. Do the same for the second bobbin.
-
5
Lace the thread loosely around the neck of one of your bobbins and secure the two bobbins with a rubber band until you are ready to start making your lace.
