How to Find What Percent One Number Is of Another Number?

When finding what percentage one number is of another number, you simply need to know which one is the part and which one is the whole.

1. Identify which number is the part and which number is the whole. For example, if you wanted to find the shooting percentage of basketball player, the number of made shots would be the part and the number of shots attempted would be the whole.

2. Divide the part by the whole. For example, if the part equals 43 and the whole equals 67, divide 43 by 67 to get 0.6418.

3. Multiply the Step 2 result by 100 to calculate the percent. Finishing the example, multiply 0.6418 by 100 to find the 43 out of 67 equals 64.18 percent.
