How to Use Trailer Lights
Trailer lights are assemblies that are hooked up to the back of your trailer when you're hauling a car, boat, camper or similar vehicle. Because drivers behind you can't see the lights on your vehicle, you need to have a duplicate set of lights on the trailer. These lights need to be plugged into your car via a connector. Once plugged in, the trailer lights will duplicate your vehicle's running lights, brake lights and turn signals.

1
Hook the trailer up to your vehicle's trailer hitch. Back the vehicle up until the ball of the trailer hitch is under the part of the trailer that fits over the ball. Crank down the support on the trailer until the ball is covered by the hitch. Push the lock through the connecting point to ensure that the trailer and the trailer hitch stay connected until you unlock them.

2
Connect the trailer's plug to your vehicle's converter. If you have a factory standard converter, as most trucks and SUVs do, then there will be a plug at the rear of your vehicle that connects to a plug attached to your trailer. Make sure that the two plugs fit firmly, and there's no wire hanging down where it could get snagged on the road as you pass.

Turn on the vehicle and check to be sure that the trailer lights work. The lights should flash when you break, and the turn signals should correspond to your own signals when you flip the switch.
