How to Track Insured Mail
When mailing something with monetary value it is wise to consider purchasing insurance from the United States Postal Service (USPS) to cover the cost of the item being shipped should anything happen to it. Insurance is available for the total value of the item at the time of shipping. Purchasing insurance for your mail automatically includes delivery confirmation, which means that once your package is delivered you will receive notification in the mail of the delivery; delivery confirmation also allows you to track your package.

1
Mail your insured package, keeping a copy of the delivery confirmation receipt. This receipt includes your package's tracking number so you can check online to see where your package is and when it is estimated to arrive at its destination.
-
2
Visit the USPS website's track and confirm page (see Resources). Enter the numerical code on your delivery confirmation receipt into the "Label Number/Receipt Number" box and click "Go".

3
View the results, which will give you information regarding where your package is currently located. Checking your tracking number too soon after mailing it will yield no results; wait at least a day before attempting to track your package.
